He didn't. The settings he used on his strat were to turn the amp up full and then use the volume control on the guitar to provide distortion. He also used a Marshall Superfuzz and a wah-wah pedal. Guitar feedback is controlled by many things.......the strength of the guitar pickups, the amp volume, position of the guitar in relationship the the amplifier speakers, the note being played, the resonant frequency of the room, the type of guitar, effects pedals that boost the signal..........Sometimes a ';controlled'; feedback can be started by touching the guitar to the speaker cabinet as a note(s) is/are being played. Jimi usually played at a rather high volume that makes feedback rather easy to produce. As far as controlling it, that just comes with practice and knowing your equipment. Controlled feedback gets to be something you can almost feel before it actually happens, and quite often is a harmonic of the note being played, instead of the actual note
I dont think he did. He used a wah wah pedal for his effects but the feedback i think he just used prove even more what a mastermind he was!
